This 6-year-old sweetie was given up because his owners were no longer able to afford him. You see, Spencer is a special boy. He has Addison’s disease. Addison’s is caused by a deficiency in the dog’s adrenal glands (people suffer from the same condition). Correctly treated, the dog can lead a normal and healthy life. Spencer gets a shot once a month (administered at home) and daily steroids. The cost of those medications is about $80-$90 per month.

Spencer’s personality truly is worth a million bucks – he is sweet, good-natured and gets along great with everyone. He’s in a foster home with other dogs and cats, and is fine with all of them. He likes to fetch tennis balls and is a great car rider, but his very favorite activity is snuggling with Mom. He has no behavioral issues at all; he’s just a happy-go-lucky type of guy! Spencer is potty trained, but he does need a home where someone can let him out every 4 or 5 hours for potty breaks during the day, due to the medications he is on.

Spencer is currently up for adoption, as his medical condition is under control and he is very healthy. We are hopeful that a family will come along for Spencer, but until that time, GRRMF will continue his treatment regimen and ensure he is happy and cared for in a foster home. He also enjoys swimming at Hip Dog in Winter Park!

Spencer is housebroken, doesn’t chew on things he’s not supposed to and knows all the basic commands. He loves to snuggle in bed but has been trained not to get on any other furniture. He had to be shaved when he first came in due to severe matting, but that’s all growing back in and he is sporting a typical golden coat now.

We know that Spencer is not going to appeal to everyone, because he does come with medical needs. His condition is managed, however, and we feel he deserves a chance to find his very own forever home. He is such a wonderful golden boy, we’re happy to be able to help him.
