Important information about the adoption process
Our adoption process is, by design, thorough to ensure each dog finds the best possible forever home. These dogs have been surrendered to us for various reasons, and we work hard to make sure they are healthy, happy, and ready for their next chapter in life.
How does GRRMF prepare dogs for adoption?
We take great care to ensure each dog is ready for their forever home. Here’s how we do it:
Veterinary Checkups
- Every dog receives a thorough health examination to address any medical needs.
Foster Care
- Dogs are placed in loving foster homes who give us feedback about each dog’s behavior in their new surroundings to better understand their needs for their forever home match.
Medical Treatments
- Any necessary medical treatments are completed while the dogs are in foster care.
Behavior training as needed
- Based on the foster home observations, we utilize force-free trainers to build foundational skills or work on areas of improvement while the dogs are in our foster care.
What if I see a dog that I’m interested in?
If a dog you’re interested in is already matched with an approved family, please understand that we cannot accommodate new requests for that dog. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to consider other wonderful dogs available for adoption. Your perfect match might be just a click away! Check our success stories.
How long does the process usually take?
It varies. Our volunteers work very hard to individually match each dog to the family who can meet their important needs. The adoption timeframe for our dogs will vary based on the following considerations:
- Specific qualities you desire in your furry friend
- Needs of your family
- Number of dogs available for adoption
- Characteristics of the dogs within our program
