Dora’s legacy of gentleness and guiding dogs to become the best they could be both as a foster mom and GRRMF ambassador before and during her time as a Hearts of Gold west coast matriarch is her legacy. Here is what her Dad said about Dora’s amazing therapy experiences.
Fifteen-year-old Dora, who was rescued by GRRMF and adopted by the Haker family in 2005, is not the only one who enjoys these events, her happy handler does too. “Dora truly enjoys the atmosphere at the colleges,” explains Charlie, “because she’s so used to attending GRRMF events. They’re very similar in that people are eager to meet and greet all of the dogs at these events. I couldn’t have asked for a more charming or charismatic partner than Dora. With each subsequent visit Dora becomes increasingly more comfortable, and absolutely insists on checking up on people who are by themselves away from the group.” Eager to share some of their special moments together, he recounted one at the University of South Florida, Tampa. “Dora met a student who was very excited that they shared the same birthday. She preserved the moment ‘for posterity’ by taking a selfie with Dora. “At the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, a young lady sat with Dora for an hour on our first visit. Then, on our second visit, she came back looking for Dora and stayed with us for 1 1/2 hours before she needed to go to work.”
